Update: Mooring buoys in Penn’s Landing Marina surveyed and re-certified!

It has been a busy start to 2018 here at Penn’s Landing Marina. We’ve been working hard to complete the repairs required after Irma and to get our full range of marina services and facilities up and running. In our last blog update we were pleased to announce that our marina facilities and the dock were once again open to visiting yacht owners, and that great progress had been made getting back to business as usual. Fortunately, our talented team remains unchanged, allowing us to continue offering a range of repair and maintenance services, including hauling and de-commissioning for the summer months, all completed to our usual high standards and with superb customer service.

Mooring buoys are ready to use!

Since our last post, we have been working on securing and reviewing our mooring buoys. Surveyed and re-certified mooring spots in the sheltered Fat Hog’s Bay are now available, offering greater flexibility to visiting yachts looking to resupply, make repairs, stop in at the Red Rock Restaurant & Bar, or simply overnight before sailing on.

Beyond the 12 slips available at the dock we now have 13 functioning mooring buoys nestled in the tranquil waters of the bay, with more set to be installed, surveyed and certified. In recent weeks, we have completed a full review of each mooring to ensure yachts are secure in the bay. Our moorings situated to the east of the approach channel into East End Bay and are all professionally maintained by MoorSeacure.

More about our moorings…

Fat Hog’s Bay is one of the Tortola’s best mooring locations, with the geographical features of the island creating a naturally sheltered harbor, ideally suited to year-round moorings. It is protected by hills of the East End in the north, and by Chapel Hill to the east. To the south-east and south lie Ella Reef and the Red Rock formation respectively, while to the west you’ll find the Fort Hodge headland and Buck Island. The result of this is a harbor with shelter from ground swells, natural ventilation from the prevailing trade winds, and a perfect location for moorings.

Check in with our blog again soon for more updates on the repair work at Penn’s Landing Marina and for more information on our facilities and services!
